Welcome to Vienna!

Welcome to the International Conference on “Plant Diseases and Resistance Mechanisms“!

The Green Revolution and a dramatic increase of major crop yields during last 50 years have saved millions of lives in third world countries and for the first time in history, humankind understood and saw clear evidence that modern science and technology can feed the growing world population. Modern crops are mainly intensive, high yield with good resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, however, in some regions up to 30 yield are lost every year because of diseases or other stresses. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of resistance to plant diseases is one of the hottest areas of modern plant science. The main aim of this Conference is to bring researchers from academy and industry to present and evaluate the most recent advances in understanding and combating plant diseases and to define new frontiers in this field.

International Conference "Plant Diseases and Resistance Mechanisms" to be held in Vienna on February 20-22th , 2013 will provide leading academy and industry scientists a platform to communicate recent advances in Plant-Pathogen Interactions and an opportunity to establish multilateral collaborations.

Vienna is located in the heart of Europe on the banks of the Danube River, and considered one of the most important economic, cultural and touristic large cities of central Europe. Apart from providing top science, the Conference will capture the spirit of the city thanks to the central location of the venue offering a multitude of cultural events just minutes away.

The International Conference “Plant Diseases and Resistance Mechanisms ” will cover the following research topics:

  • Ecology of Host-Parasite Interaction
  • Plant-Parasite Coevolution & Evolution of Host Protection
  • Genetics and Genomics of Plant Disease Resistance
  • Plant Defence Activators
  • Plant Response to Pathogens and Diseases: Immunity and SAR
  • Plant Pathogen Effectors and their Action
  • Computational Models for Elucidating Plant-Pathogen Interactions
  • Plant Diseases, Resistance and Bioinformatics Platforms
  • Elicitors and Hormone Signal Transduction of Plant Pathogenesis and Resistance
  • Signal Transduction of Plant Pathogenesis and Resistance
  • Natural and Induced Resistance Mechanisms Against Plant Pathogens
  • Breeding and Biotechnology of Plant Diseases Resistance
  • Engineering Pathogen Resistance in Crop Plants
  • Detection and Molecular Diagnosis of Plant Disease

Amongst the invited speakers are internationally known names such as:
Asami T (Japan), Batley J (Australia), Boland W (Germany), Collinge D B (Denmark), Elena S F (Spain), Emerson B C (UK), Ercolano M-R (Italy), Grant M (UK), H?fte M (Belgium), Jones J (UK), Loake G J (UK), Miedaner T (Germany), Rivas S (France), Staskawicz B (USA), Thomma B P (The Netherlands), Ton J (UK), Willems K A (Belgium) etc.

Approximately 300-350 participants are expected to attend this exciting scientific forum including almost 40 lectures delivered by worldwide known invited speakers and young, talented speakers selected from submitted abstracts. The program combines plenary lectures, poster sessions, a unique Conference Dinner Party and sightseeing tours of Vienna.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Vienna in February 20-22th, 2013!
